THQ Nordic continues to grow strong with the latest news being they have teamed up with 343 Industries and Microsoft Studios to help distribute the physical version of Halo Wars 2 for the PC.
With this partnership, THQ Nordic will work to allow the PC version to have access to the Xbox One version through Xbox Play Anywhere. Both the standard and Ultimate Edition will be available at retail stores while gamers will have the option to also purchase the Season Pass. Those who purchase the Ultimate Edition can play the game four days early while receiving a copy of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, a remastered version of the original game.
CEO of THQ Nordic, Lars Wingefors, has stated in a press release,
“After working on so many titles together with Microsoft in 2016, we are stoked to start the year with another partnership. Being able to deliver such a big franchise to RTS and Halo fans alike, the opportunity to buy and own this game in a beautiful physical shape is something we appreciate a lot.”
This is all part of the ongoing development strategy after Nordic Games rebranded itself as THQ Nordic back in August 2016. The studio started as a small developer but gained the attention of the gaming industry when it acquired the trademark logo along with the rights to many of the THQ’s intellectual property following its liquidation after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Halo Wars 2 is a real-time strategy game set in the Halo universe that will be released in February 2017. Taking place after the events of Halo 5: Guardians, players take command of the crew of the UNSC Spirit of Fire as they battle the Banished, a faction of the Covenant that has gone rogue.
