An Insight for Bay Area Gamers
Ryan Reynolds will voice Detective Pikachu in the upcoming film adaption of the game.
Pokemon fans who were hoping that Danny DeVito take on the role of Detective Pikachu will be both disappointed and thrilled to learn that the role has been given to God’s Perfect Idiot.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Ryan Reynolds has been tapped to play Detective Pikachu in a live action film adaptation of the game. I guess this little Tweet from late 2016 inspired the guys at Nintendo to make their decisions.
I don’t know who made this, but thank you. #MaximumEffort pic.twitter.com/nH1ywqeshN

Fans who were hoping that Danny DeVito get the part may be disappointed but on the bright side, we get Pikachu Deadpool jokes. In case you forgot; when the Japanese trailer for Great Detective Pikachu was unveiled, American fans petitioned Nintendo to cast iconic TV star in the title role for the English version.
One fan even put voice clips of DeVito in a re-edited version of the trailer:
Its unknown when the film is set to launch but fans could expect a 2019 release. It should also be noted that this will be the first live-action adaptation of a Nintendo game since Super Mario Bros. in 1993 (so no pressure).
