Rockstar Games has officially unveiled the first gameplay trailer for Grand Theft Auto Online and announced that it will be released on October 1st.

Grand Theft Auto Online is going to be a massive multiplayer online game (MMO) that will have 16-players working alone or teaming with friends to complete missions and participate in activities that will allow them to build a criminal empire.

Players will be allowed to customize their characters image and traits while gaining new skills as they progress. Gamers will also have the opportunity to play a classic game of death match.

The game will use the sand box setting of Grand Theft Auto V as a foundation but Rockstar Games has plans for it to grow overtime.

Gamers who purchase Grand Theft Auto V will get free accesses to Grand Theft Auto Online when it launches. However no official announcements have been made about the PC release date for both games.

Grand Theft Auto V will be the 15th game in the series and will continue in the same timeline set by Grand Theft Auto IV. It will be released on September 17, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
