Pixelity Inc. has announced that they are beginning work on an XR adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Under the working title Neon Genesis Evangelion XR, the project aims to allow players to experience the original series. It’s going to be a trilogy with the first title launching sometime in 2026.

Players will experience all 26 episodes of the iconic series from the perspective of an original character. The gameplay will focus on players working with characters from the series to take on challenging missions.

No other details about the project or what system it will be available for have been announced. Additional information will become available in the future.

Set 15 years after a cataclysm attack, Neon Genesis Evangelion follows the story of Shinji as he is recruited by his father to pilot an Evangelion into combat against creatures dubbed Angels. The series has been highly praised for deconstruction the mech genre while also exploring complex religious themes that explore the meaning of individuality, freedom and personal choice.

The original series ran from 1995 to 1996 and concluded with the film, The End of Evangelion. The series would be reimagined with the Rebuild saga starting in 2007. Due to disputes in copyright, the original series hadn’t been broadcasted since the early 2000s until Netflix acquired the streaming rights in 2018.
