The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation has announced that their online only event, Anime Expo Lite, attracted over 500,000 viewers from around the world.

Based on the data collected from their Twitch and YouTube channels, Anime Expo Lite attracted over 500,000 viewers during the two day event. The digital event featured content from industry leaders like Square Enix, Crunchyroll, and VIZ Media.

In a press release made available, CEO of the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation Ray Chiang has stated,

“We of course would have much rather been celebrating in-person but Anime Expo Lite was a fantastic alternative for our many faithful attendees, and for the many anime fans who normally aren’t able to get to our physical event. Through virtual experiences we were still able to share with them a piece of Anime Expo no matter where they were in the world”

Anime Expo Lite was an all digital event organized and hosted by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation as a substitution for their 2020 event. Anime Expo 2020 was set to take during the July 4th weekend but was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The live convention is one of the largest in the world and it attracts over 100,000 guests. To have an idea of what to expect, check out our coverage of Anime Expo 2019.
