The sports and video game world was heart broken to learn that John Madden has passed away on December 28th 2021 at the age of 85. In a five decade career, he help define the NFL and the football community going from a successful coach to being the face of the sport for a generation.

Sports fans best know John Madden as a coach and for his work as a commentator starting in the early 80’s. During every Super Bowl, he was a dominating figure while his personal bus, known as the Madden Cruiser, was always the place to be. Gamers best know him for the Madden NFL series from EA Sports. The brain child of Madden and Trip Hawkins, the series has grown to become an important part of the NFL community.

Madden was not just a legend in the NFL but also a staple of the sports community in the Bay Area. He grew up in Daly City while played football for Jefferson High School and the College of San Mateo. From 1969 to 1978; he was the Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders and lead them to their first Super Bowl victory in 1977. After his retirement as a broadcaster, he was a regular commentator on a number of sport shows in the Bay Area.
