As of 3/11/2020, Santa Clara County has 45 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1 death from the virus. In response, Public Heath has issued a new series of guidelines. Among them is a three week ban on large public gatherings in the county.
Due to the concern for the community, the NorCal Spring Gathering 2020 has been cancelled. Citing the how the gathering attracts a large number of people along, the fear is that it could be a high risk of guests contracting COVID-19. There are no plans at the moment for an alternative date.
This is not the only major event that has been cancelled due to the outbreak. Game Developers Conference 2020 was cancelled after numerous industry titans cancelled their plans. BAR Con cancelled their March event following the announcement of new guidelines.
NorCal Cosplay Gatherings is a community organization dedicated to hosting cosplay gatherings around the Bay Area. They host a major event each season while helping out at local fan conventions.
