Following its triumphant return in 2022, BayCon has announced it will return in 2023. Details about the theme, date, and guest have already been announced.
BayCon 2023 will take place from June 30th till July 3rd at the San Mateo Marriott San Francisco Airport. In a tribute to the space opera, the theme for 2023 will be “A Night at the Space Opera (or It’s Not Over Until the Space Whale Sings)”. Tickets for the 2023 event are now on sale.
The guest list features Sarah Gailey as the Toastmaster, Catherynne M. Valente, Tehani Farr, and Dr. Bradford Lyau. Laser Malena-Webber will be the musical guest for the weekend.
Sarah Gailey is a science fiction and fantasy writer from the Bay Area. They are best known for the novella River of Teeth, for which they have been awarded the Nebula Award, a Hugo Award, and the Locus Award. Their other notable works include Magic for Liars and Upright Women Wanted.
Catherynne M. Valente is a science fiction writer best known for Space Opera, Palimpsest, and The Refrigerator Monologues. For her work, she has been awarded the Lambda Award while also having been nominated for a Hugo and Locus Award. Gamers will also know her as the author of Mass Effect: Andromeda Annihilation.
Tehani Farr is an artist whose work has been featured in the H. R. Giger Museum. She has also worked on World of Warcraft while working with bands like Rata Blanca and Kreator.
Dr. Bradford Lyau is a historian who specializes in science fiction and has been awarded the Sam Moskowitz Archive Award in 2019 for his work.
Laser Malena-Webber is a nerd-folk musician who is best known for their work with The Doubleclicks. Their song is known for combining elements of comedy and geek culture.
Bay Con is the longest running science fiction and fantasy fan conventions in the Bay Area. The event brings together writers, artist and enthusiasts for a weekend that explores ones imagination.
