Speaking on behalf of Ubisoft; Nicolas Bombray, Game Director of For Honor, has stated in a press release,
“We are very excited and proud to see our knight, the Warden, join SNK’s Samurai Shodown as a DLC character. It’s an honor to be part of such a renown franchise that has existed for decades.”

Such crossovers in fighting games are not uncommon as other titles have done the same. Notable examples include Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher III and 2B from NieR Automata appearing in Soulcalibur IV. Another is when Spawn and the Terminator made an appearance in Mortal Kombat 11.
Samurai Shodown is reboot of the acclaimed fighting game and the first entry in 11 years. The first game was released back in 1993 and the reboot was released in 2019 for all consoles and in 2020 for the PC. For Honor is an action fighting game set during the Middle Ages and was released in 2017.
