Pop-culture icon and civil rights legend, Nichelle Nichols has passed away at the age of 89. Best known for her role as Lt. Nyota Uhura in the original Star Trek, it was a character that has had a profound impact on so many.

Her performance as Lt. Nyota Uhura was instrumental in paving the way for space pioneers like Dr. Mae Jemison and Dr. Sally Ride. It inspired so many women to become involved in science and technology. It was also a performance that was highly praised at the time by leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King.

We had the honor of interviewing her at Silicon Valley Comic Con 2018. It was supposed to be about her latest project but it became a front-row seat to how much one person could inspire so many. This was more true when she hosted the panel with Dr. Mae Jemison.
