It has been a long wait but Crunchyroll Expo has confirmed their first guest for the 2019 event. In a treat for horror fans, it has been announced that Junji Ito will be a guest during the event.

Junji Ito is one of the most iconic horror manga artists with his work being well known for blending elements of body horror with Lovecraftian horror. His most iconic work includes Gyo, The Long Dream and Uzumaki while also creating iconic characters like Tomie along with Souichi Tsujii. Many of his work has been adapted with several films based on Tomie along with the anime series, The Junji Ito Collection.

Prior to its cancellation; Ito was collaborating with gaming icon Hideo Kojima and Academy Award award winning director Guillermo del Toro in the development of Silent Hills. Recently he published Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection, a manga adaption of the acclaimed horror story by Marry Shelly.

Crunchyroll Expo 2019 will take place from August 30th till September 1st at the San Jose Convention Center. More guests will be announced in the coming months and the only event confirmed is the kick-off party.
