Neon Genesis Evangelion 8Bit/Digi

GKIDS has announced that they have acquired the North American theatrical, home video and EST rights to Neon Genesis Evangelion. This includes the rights to the original series and the movies.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most thought provoking and influential anime’s. Due to issues with the series original copyright holder, DVD copies of the series have been out of print. Because of this issue, Netflix had to re-dub the English version when it acquired the streaming rights in 2018.

Thanks to GKIDS acquiring the rights, the original series will see its first home media release in over 15 years. Neon Genesis Evangelion will see its first Blu-Ray release some time in 2021. This deal will not have an effect on Netflix as they still hold the global streaming rights.

Set 15 years after cataclysm attack, Neon Genesis Evangelion follows the story of Shinji as he is recruited by his father to pilot an Evangelion into combat against creatures dubbed “Angels”. The series has been highly praised for deconstructing the mecha genre while also exploring complex themes that explore the meaning of individuality and personal choice.
