Big news for all you literature buffs, The Dairymen and Nerial have announced a launch date for their video game adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

George Orwell’s Animal Farm will launch for the PC (via Steam) and mobile devices on December 10th. Check out the latest teaser that showcase what players could expect in this adaptation:

The game will be a politically driven narrative experience with elements of strategy and resource management. Players will try to build up the farm while navigating its political climate under the principles of Animalism. Based on the players actions, there are eight different endings to the journey.

In a press release that was made available, writer Emily Short has stated,

“Animal Farm tends to be remembered for how its powerful characters destroy the truth through gaslighting, hypocrisy, corruption and greed – all distressingly recognisable to people living through the political events of 2020. But the book also says a lot about why altruistic characters support horrible outcomes, and how values like hard work, cooperation, and loyalty can be warped in obedience to unsound goals. Video games are powerful at telling stories about systems and enabling ‘what if?’ questions. My goal was to capture Orwell’s very relevant observations in a form that players can explore.”

George Orwell’s Animal Farm was first published in 1945 and it has been hailed as one of the great works of political satire. The story is both a metaphor and critic of the Soviet Union under the leadership of Joseph Stalin.
