Capcom Brings the Tokyo Game Show to the Bay Area

Capcom had a commanding presence during the 2023 Tokyo Game Show as they showcased many of their upcoming titles. While this event stands as one of the foremost occasions in the games industry, attendance wasn’t possible for everyone. Thankfully, Capcom decided to bring the experience to the States with a special preview session at their office in San Francisco.

Capcom at TGS by the Bay was a special event that invited commentators and members of the press for a hands-on preview. We had the opportunity to demo several of their upcoming titles while learning more about them. All of the games present during the session were also available at TGS 2023. During my session; I got the chance to play the demo for Dragon’s Dogma II, the iOs version of Resident Evil Village, and a chapter of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy.

Dragon’s Dogma II

Dragon’s Dogma II is the follow-up to the acclaimed RPG and will once again follow the journey of an Arisen who must slay a ruthless dragon. The game is set to launch for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the PC. No launch date has been set but that will change in the future. 

During my session, I played a demo of Dragon’s Dogma II for the PlayStation 5. From the start, I had the choice to either play as an Archer, Fighter, or Thief. I started the session by playing as an Archer who is first tasked with rescuing an adventurer who is being attacked by Goblins. After completing the quest, you arrive at a town that has been destroyed in a dragon attack only to have a flashback of the attack. Upon waking up, word gets out that you are an Arisen. This gets the attention of Lord Gregor, who invites you to the capital city. From here, we had to battle more goblins and a cyclopes.

Resident Evil Village (iOs)

Resident Evil Village was the 10th game in the series and launched in 2021 for all major consoles and the PC. Set several years after the events of Biohazard, players take on the role of Ethan Winters as he tries to rescue his daughter from Mother Miranda. Now the game is coming to the iPhone 15 and iPad sometime in 2023, allowing fans to enjoy the terror while on the go. 

During my session, I got to experience the beginning of the game while playing it on the iPad. Since I’ve played numerous games on mobile devices in the past, I opted to use an Xbox controller for this playthrough just for comfort. Ethan has arrived at the village only to be attacked by a horde of Lycans. After fighting them off, he meets up with a group of survivors only to watch them get massacred by a Lycan. 

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a collection of three titles in the acclaimed Ace Attorney series that features Apollo Justice. The collection features Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, and Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. All three titles were originally released on the Nintendo DS and are now coming to consoles along with the PC. The game is set to launch Jan 24, 2024.

During my session, I played Chapter 1 of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice on the Nintendo Switch. The chapter focused on Phoenix Wright arriving in the Kingdom of Khura’in to visit Maya Fey. Upon his arrival, he meets Ahlbi Ur’gaid who becomes both a guide and a friend/ However; the trip takes a dark turn when Ur’gaid is accused of treason. Given the lack of a defense attorney, Wright has to step in to defend his new friend.
