An Insight for Bay Area Gamers
FanimeCon 2019 after dark is what happens when the sun goes down and the creatures of the night take over.
FanimeCon is a unique anime convention as the doors are 24/7 and the fun never stops. During the day, it’s a typical anime convention that welcomes everyone. But when the sun goes down and the creatures of the night take over, it becomes a completely different experience.
For the 2019 event, the late night activity was divided between Silver Island and the Convention Center along with the surrounding area.
Trying to catch a shuttle to Silver Island was an adventure of its own. Dubbed the “Porn Bus” by guests, these free shuttles took fans from designated areas to the Double Tree. Due to its popularity, most shuttles were packed after their first stop. Despite the wait, there was plenty of hentai related shenanigans happening in the lines for the Porn Bus.
Silver Island was the adult part of FanimeCon and it was hosted at the Double Tree. From iconic events like the hentai screening and yaoi bingo to new additions such as adult vendors, there was plenty to do at Silver Island. Among the activities were:
Night Market was the place to be if ones shopping agenda involved picking up some adult content. From hentai and yaio to lewd fan art, the vendors offered a unique selection of goods that could not be found in the Dealers Hall or Artist Ally.
The Casino was the place to be if anyone wanted to play a classic game of Blackjack or Texas Hold’em. It should be noted that no real money was used and the games were all in good fun.
Walking around the San Jose Convention Center and the surrounding area, one would have the most random encounter. Outside the convention center there were a good number of large gatherings, most of them were unofficial cosplay meetup along with several impromptu dance-offs. In the center of the Ceaser Chavez Plaza, the team from Senpai Squad had setup an outdoor rave.
Inside, there was the Persona cosplay gathering along with a few unofficial cosplay gatherings. Several musicians had also setup their own stage at random spots and would be performing for anyone who would appreciate their performance.
During the day, the panels allowed guests to gain some insight into their favorite fandom community or industry. At night, the panels were allowed to offer a more mature look into a topic or allow the panelists to swear all they want.
FanimeCon organized a series of mature panels that discussed a verity of topics from hentai and erotic fan fiction to the dark-side of an industry. These are some of the mature panels I got to checkout during the weekend:
Bad Henati has been one of the most popular panels at FanimeCon and this year was no exception. Fans gathered in a dark room to watch some of the worst hentai be picked apart.
Hentai Music Video: 10 Year Review was both a contest and a look back at some of the past entries. This was an opportunity for fans to combine their love of music with hentai and to show their amazing video editing skills. After the contest, fans would look back at some of the past entries.
For those who wanted to participate in a late night LAN party or play a match of old school Super Smash Bros, the Game Hall was the place to be. While all the major tournaments have ended for the day, there was still plenty to do and no sense of time if you got caught in the moment.
