It should be noted that this will be the films premiere in North America. Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time was first released in Japan on January 23rd, 2021.

Rebuild of Evangelion is a cinematic retelling of the anime series while also introducing new characters to the story. The series brings together series creator, Hideaki Anno, along with the original writers and performers. The first film, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, was released back in 2007.

Neon Genesis Evangelion follows the story of Shinji as he is recruited to pilot an Evangelion into combat against the Angels. The series has been highly praised for deconstructing the mecha genre while also exploring complex themes. Among the themes explored are the meaning of individuality and personal choice.
