Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have announced that they are partnering up with Alcon Television Group to produce an anime series set in the same universe as the acclaimed film from director Sir. Ridley Scott.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus will be an anime series created by Sola Digital Arts with Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama attached to direct several episodes. The series will be set sometime Not much about the plot has been revealed but it has been confirmed that it will take place in 2032, hence with will be set before the events of Blade Runner 2049 but after Black Out 2022.

In regards to its distribution, Adult Swim will have the worldwide rights to broadcast the English versions (via Toonami) while Crunchyroll will handle the worldwide streaming distribution. Both Adult Swim and Crunchyroll are both divisions of WarnerMedia, which also owns the rights to the Blade Runner series.

Based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, Blade Runner is a science fiction neo-noir film that follows LAPD Det. Rick Deckard who is tasked with “retiring” a group of rogue replicates. Under looked at the time of its release, the film is today hailed as one of the greatest works of science fiction. Blade Runner 2049 was the long awaited sequel that was released in 2017.
