What to Expect in October 2023

With the Fall Season coming soon, Viz Media has announced a list of major releases for the month of October 2023. This includes new manga series by major writers and artists, the return of beloved stories, along with major DVD launches.

All works can be purchased through Viz Media or authorized vendors. Here is a breakdown of all the major releases from Viz Media during the month of October.

Series Debut

Tamon’s B-Side, Vol. 1 – Tamon is an insecure mess to the point that he’s threatening to quit his band. A fan named Utage refuses to let anyone stand in Tamon’s way, even himself. She will do what is needed to support her favorite singer.

Anime Tie-Ins

Chainsaw Man, Vol. 12 – Asa Mitaka is having trouble getting along with her classmates and the class pet. This doesn’t matter for Asa as she has something special going for her and it involves Denji. 

Hunter x Hunter, Vol. 37 – As Kurapika fights to protect Prince Woble in the Kakin war of succession, trouble is brewing on the Whale Ship. Those tiers are ruled by crime families who have their own agendas in the war.

Kaiju No. 8, Vol. 8 – Reno finally puts his Numbers Weapon training to the test in a live kaiju combat test. After witnessing Reno’s explosive progress, Iharu shifts his focus to improving his own skills. Those skills are now put to the test when an abnormality strikes.

Komi Can’t Communicate, Vol. 27 – After Komi’s cell phone meets its watery doom, her dad helps get her a new smartphone. Now she has all kinds of apps that let her connect with the world, only after she figures out how they work. 

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 15 – The final showdown in Naruhata reaches its climax between Koichi and Number 6. All his life, Koichi dreamed of being a hero but had to abandon it when it didn’t work out. Now his dream is all he’s got to hold on to during this battle. 

Spy x Family, Vol. 10 – A look at how the war in Westalis sharted a young boy’s life and transformed him into the spy known as Twilight. 

New Releases

Akane-banashi, Vol. 2 – Akane accompanies Kyoji to a retirement home to perform as the opening act. It is here that Akane will need to prove that she has grown from his training. Later, she learns about a competition and the presiding judge is none other than Issho Arakawa—the man who banished Akane’s father. 

Dandadan, Vol. 5 – Okarun and the group are off to investigate the Jiji family. Upon their arrival, a strange family working with the police starts causing trouble for them. Before they can solve the mystery, Momo ends up as an offering to the local god.

Mimi’s Tales of Terror – Mimi and her boyfriend encounter one chilling mystery after another. First, there’s the neighbor woman dressed in black from head to toe. Next, there are the eyes tracking Mimi’s movements from the cemetery. Finally, there is a bizarre red circle drawn on a basement wall that changes with each passing day.

Spy x Family: The Official Guide–Eyes Only – The secrets of the Forger family are revealed in this behind-the-scenes guide.

Betwixt – Manga creators from Japan and America present a collection of horror.  

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Anime Guide: Season 1 – Based on the popular manga, this guide will provide readers with everything they want to know about the making of the series.

Fullmetal Alchemist 20th Anniversary Book – A celebration of the legacy of Fullmetal Alchemist with this tribute to the iconic manga. 

My Hero Academia: The Official Easy Illustration Guide – A guide to teach fans the quickest way to draw their favorite heroes.

The Promised Neverland Complete Box Set – The complete Promised Neverland in one box set. Besides all 20 volumes, the collection contains an exclusive booklet and a double-sided colored poster.

Blu-ray 

Naruto Shippuden, Set 1 – Naruto returns to the Village Hidden in the Leaves a whole lot stronger. Perfect as the Akatsuki are on the move and their first target is the Village Hidden in the Sand. This collection features 27 episodes on 4 discs and is presented in both English and Japanese. Special features include trailers, an art gallery, and a storyboard.
