FanimeCon 2026 was a major weekend for cosplayers, not just those from the Bay Area but across the West Coast. Many had worked months on their latest cosplay project, pushing right up to the last minute, or arrived to showcase updates to their established builds.
Regardless of fandom or skill, their contributions are why FanimeCon has one of the best cosplay scenes.
The cosplay scene during the FanimeCon weekend has always been unique, as it’s the event where cosplayers premiere their latest creations or showcase their finest work. During FanimeCon 2026, many displayed their best or most beloved cosplay at official gatherings such as the ones for Pokémon, Resident Evil, Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia. Others booked private photo sessions arranged by independent photographers who wanted to utilize the Downtown area. The fandoms ranged from popular titles to classics like Dragon Ball Z and Ouran High School Host Club.
Some cosplayers were deeply dedicated to faithfully bringing their favorite characters to life. Others infused their outfits with personal flair or a unique twist. A few went the extra mile to turn a joke or meme into a clever cosplay. For many, this weekend was the perfect moment to debut their latest creative project. The result was a Downtown San Jose taken over by cosplayers around the convention center, from first-time builds to cosplays crafted by seasoned designers.

Cosplaying and cosplay gatherings were among the many highlights of FanimeCon 2026. While there is a plethora of fun during the weekend, cosplaying will always be one of the hallmarks of the overall experience.
FanimeCon 2026 took place during the Memorial Day weekend from May 22 to May 25 at the San Jose Convention Center and surrounding area. It is one of the largest fan-organized anime conventions in North America and one of the biggest events in San Jose. The convention is centered at the convention center, with additional events hosted at the San Jose Marriott, the Signia by Hilton San Jose, the DoubleTree by Hilton San Jose and the Plaza de César Chávez.
