A Look at 10 Chambers Latest Work

In a special event organized by 10 Chambers at the Unity office in San Francisco, members of the media were invited to experience the conclusion of GTFO and get a first-hand look at Den of Wolves. This was an opportunity to sample their flagship title while learning about their next project.

During the preview session, we got the chance to sample two of the final expeditions for GTFO. At the same time, we got a first look and some insight into Den of Wolves. This includes its inspiration along with what to expect from this new world.

Intro to Den of Wolves

After the conclusion of GTFO, 10 Chambers will be shifting its focus on developing Den of Wolves. During the preview session, I got a first-hand look at the announcement trailer along with getting an idea of what to expect.

Den of Wolves is an espionage-themed heist game set in a cyberpunk world inspired by the works of Philip K. Dick along with classics like Ghost in the Shell. Set in the year 2097, Midway Island has become an independent city state ruled by major corporations under the guise of an “unregulated innovation zone”. Bringing this world to life is made possible with stunning sets, rich backgrounds, and over 400 fictional brands that will play a pivotal role in the overall lore. While the world will be massive and deep, it’s not going to be an open world experience.

Players will take control of their own mercenary enterprise as they offer their services to the highest bidder. They will be hired by the many corporations operating on Midway and will be tasked with a variety of jobs against rival industries. The gameplay will be four player co-op and the missions will range from stealing IPs to taking out corporate leaders or setting them up to fail. The gameplay will be a mix of stealth, puzzle solving, and action while requiring players to adapt to the situation.

At the moment; no release window has been set. The plan is that the game will first launch on Steam Early Access. It will progress until the full game is ready for a proper launch on the PC along with the consoles.

The Conclusion to GTFO

Released on Steam Early Access back in 2021, GTFO started as a passion project but quickly grew to become a hit experience. The story is set to conclude with the final expedition. However; this will not be the end of the game as there are plans for a potential console launch. At the moment, no date has been set but more information will be available in the future.

Playthrough of R8A1

After the presentation, I teamed up with two other guests, we got to sample the conclusion of GTFO, with Viktor Viklund guiding us through the experience. The first session was set in R8A1 and it began with all of us picking out our weapons plus gear. Our choices were based on what might be needed for the job along with our preferred playstyle. When all was set, it was time to descend into the pit.

Upon our arrival to the stage, we were greeted by the mysterious John Schaeffer. He laid down the situation, along with dropping hints at what was going on. Our mission for this expedition is to locate the Matter Wave Projector and get out alive. Under the leadership of Viklund, we slightly navigated through each section to the best of our ability. When encountering a Sleeper, we took turns taking them out. For the most part, we were successful at this. Along the way, we picked up additional supplies such as health packs, ammo, and glow sticks.

On a few occasions, we encounter a door tied to an alarm that would unleash an onslaught of Sleepers. Thus we had to prepare for the attack. Even though the direction of the attack would be random, we had enough gear to properly prepare. Plus; Viklund was able to develop a good strategy when came to defending the area. With everything set, it was time to unlock the door and brace for an attack. In the end, we were able to survive these challenges and press on.

After securing the Matter Wave Projector, it was time to escape to the extraction point. Here we had to hold off a wave of Sleepers until we could be picked up. Despite the challenge and a few close calls, we all made it out alive.

Playthrough of R8B1

The second session was set in R8B1 and it began with all of us picking out our weapons plus gear. This time our choices were based on our preferred playstyle along with what we had learned from the last playthrough. I was once again teamed up with the same folks with Viktor Viklund guiding us through the experience. When all was set, it was time to descend into the pit.

Upon our arrival to the stage, we were once again greeted by John Schaeffer. Our mission for this expedition is to locate the three Bata Cubes located in the facility and get out alive. The stage began like the previous one as we took out some of the Sleepers. The first major difference came with an encounter with a Sleeper Scout, which proved to be a challenge to take out. However, it became clear that this expedition was going to be more challenging than the previous stage.

The team recovered the first Bata Cube without any issues but we had our suspicion that this would not going to be easy. This became obvious when attempting to pin the location of the other two cubes. After uncovering its location, we were all teleported to an alternative version of the facility. In this world, the enemies were stronger and there were more opportunities for an onslaught to happen. Luckily we had learned from the last expedition and prepared properly.

After recovering the remaining cubes, we returned to our world and it was time to exit. There was just one minor issue, most of us were completely out of ammo regarding our primary and secondary firearms. Thus we had to rely on our blunt weapons until we could get to the extraction point. Upon our arrival; we set up all the sentry guns and worked to survive until the pickup. Despite the dire situation, we were all able to escape the onslaught.

Final Thoughts

GTFO conclusion will definitely be an expedition that puts players to the test and brings some closure to the lore. However, it will not be the end as fans could continue their journey while also bringing in new players who could be valuable allies. Den of Wolves is looking to be an ambitious project that will take the lessons learned from Pay Day 2 and GTFO to create a unique heist experience set in a cyberpunk world.

  1. Glad to see the Payday 2 creators are still making killer games that are fun to play. Can’t wait for den of wolves!

  2. Glad to hear there’s console version of both games in the pipeline, I was a bit disappointed when they only listed steam during the VGAs. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for a console release of GTFO particularly.
