Walk around the expo floor at the 2017 Game Devlopers Conference and the first thing one will notice is domination of the industries optimism in VR technology.

Just by entering the Moscone Center North Hall, guests are welcomed to sample Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul. At the entrance to the Expo, attendees are greeted by the massive Occulus booth to the left and the PlayStation VR a few steps to the right. Behind them are several more booths hosted by industry leaders like nVidia and Google that are promoting VR gaming.

Talking with devlopers and programers, one gets a good idea of what the possibilities are with VR technology. At the same time, many of the media professionals that were encountered are from publications that focus on VR gaming and technology.

Even though the technology is still in its infancy, the industry is highly optimistic about its future. From indie developers to major studios and third party devlopers, they see the future in VR gaming.

Not everyone shares this optimism has a few to recognize its potential but don’t see you at replacing traditional gaming. Other developers see a better future with augmented reality, despite its under-representation.

The 2017 Game Developers Conference will continue until March 3.
