A Look at the Flesh Made Fear Demo

Steam Next Fest 2025 was an opportunity for gamers to try out a variety of games coming soon. Among the titles I got to play was one that pays homage to the classic Resident Evil experience. Flesh Made Fear was among the many games available to demo during Steam Next Fest 2025.

Flesh Made Fear is a retro-inspired horror survival that aims to recreate the experience of the original Resident Evil. It should be noted that this coverage of the demo is a preview and should not be considered a review. I plan to publish a full review once the game officially launches.

A Happening at Rotwood

Dr. Victor Ripper, a leading scientist in the MKUltra project, was obsessed with creating the ultimate soldier. His fixation drove him underground, where he pushed his research beyond ethical boundaries. In response, the CIA has been working tirelessly to locate and eliminate him. When an agent tracking him goes missing, the Reaper Intervention Platoon is deployed to find the missing operative and put an end to Dr. Ripper’s experiments once and for all.

Playthrough of Flesh Made Fear

The demo begins with players selecting their character, Jack “Bones” Richardson, the only available option. The mission introduces Jack and his team as they head to Rotwood. However, a raised bridge forces Jack and Katya to find an alternate route. As they follow a path, a rope bridge collapses, separating them. Katya returns to the van while Jack presses on. Upon reaching the other side, he begins searching for the key to the control room.

You walk up the road and stumble upon a gas station. While searching the area, you encounter the biological nightmares created by Dr. Ripper for the first time. After finding the key, you enter the gas station and exit through the back, where you discover a workbench with plans to make a bomb needed to clear some debris. You proceed down the path to the sheriff’s house, where you find the key to the bridge control room. After gathering the necessary supplies, you lower the bridge to reunite with the team. However, the van is destroyed, and the squad is missing. You grab the breacher and complete the bomb. The mission ends when you clear the debris at the end of the road.

Thoughts on Flesh Made Fear

The gameplay features all the hallmarks of classic Resident Evil games, including two playable characters, tank controls, limited inventory, and scarce resources. Players must search the environment for tools and clues to solve puzzles essential for progression. What sets it apart from Resident Evil is its use of fully 3D environments instead of pre-rendered backgrounds. Additionally, its intro and narration tone are heavily inspired by the film Creepshow.

Flesh Made Fear is a retro-inspired horror game set to launch on PC in Q4 2025. Additional information about the game, along with potential console releases, will be available in the future.
