A Preview Session of Revive

Arc System Works returned to Anime Expo with several new titles to showcase. Among them was Double Dragon Revive, the latest entry in the iconic beat ’em up series. Guests and media members were invited to try out a demo, either solo or alongside another player.

During Anime Expo 2025, I got the opportunity to play the Double Dragon Revive demo. I got the chance to experience this upcoming entry in the iconic series and learn more about what fans can expect. It should be noted that this coverage of the demo is a preview and should not be considered a review. I plan to publish a full review once the game officially launches.

Playthrough of Double Dragon Revive

During my demo session, I played the PC version of the game at the Arc System Works booth in the Entertainment Hall. The demo featured three stages, and players could choose to play solo or team up with a partner. I opted to go solo for my session.

Stepping into the role of Billy, I began the demo in the Warehouse District. This stage serves as a tutorial, introducing the basic controls and allowing players to test out various combos and moves. There are plenty of enemies to fight, though most are low-ranking grunts. The Gang Hideout stage lets players apply what they’ve learned while facing tougher enemies and mid-level bosses. The final stage pits players against a boss, offering a true test of their skills.

My first impression is that there’s a serious lack of beat ’em up games in today’s market. So when one is in development, it’s a welcome sight. Especially when it comes from a beloved franchise. This game delivers exactly what you’d expect from a Double Dragon title. It features the mechanics and level design of a modern game, yet at its core, it’s a classic beat ’em up experience. Plus, the fact that you can play couch co-op with a friend makes it all the better.

More to Come

Double Dragon Revive will be the 11th game in the iconic series. It’s set to launch for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, along with the PC. Additional information about the game will be available as the launch date approaches.
