The year has seen the launch of ground breaking works and some awful train wrecks. At the same time there have been some missed gems. 2024 has had great games that have been overlooked by most of the community. For every hit game that pushed the medium to its limit or failed, there will be those that are overlooked.
These are games that were good but did not get the attention they deserved. This could be due to being released at a bad time or limited marketing. Yet we have not forgotten about these great games that you should have played.
These are our favorite overlooked titles of 2024:

Phantom Fury sees the return of Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison in a new adventure. While her last game paid homage to the classics of the early ’90s, this entry draws inspiration from the shooters from the latter half of the decade. Players embark on a cross-country adventure as they battle to save humanity once again. At the same time, this is the Duke Nukem Forever game that fans were promised back in 1996 and 3D Realms has finally fulfilled that obligation to gamers.

V Rising is a survival role-playing game that puts you in the role of a vampire seeking to rebuild their realm. From a gameplay perspective, it combines the defining hallmarks of Diablo and ARK: Survival. Story-wise, it evokes memories of the Legacy of Kain series, resulting in a fun and engaging game for vampire fans.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable offers fans of the acclaimed series the chance to experience some of its most iconic moments through VR. The opportunity to immerse yourself in the Scouts’ struggle in this new medium is something I’ve always hoped for, and this adaptation provides a solid foundation for that experience.

The Thing: Remastered takes players back to Outpost 31 to experience the conclusion to the John Carpenter horror classic. It invites both old-school gamers and a new generation of horror fans to experience a nightmare that pits you against not just a parasitic threat but also paranoia and the environment. This is a remaster that truly preserves the defining aspects of the original while updating the visuals and overall performance.

Maniac encapsulates the defining elements of the original Grand Theft Auto, the anti-hero persona, and humor reminiscent of Postal, all while infusing it with the artistic style of Bad Day LA. The culmination is a game that transports players to a simpler time. It’s also a reminder that video games don’t always need to be massive projects with a level of complexity. Sometimes the simplest of games can bring us the most entertainment.
