injustice2

Remember how Injustice: Gods Among Us gave comic fans the chance to settle that great debate of “who would win in a fight” without all that “Superman vs. Goku” baggage? While its follow up dose not have the same hype, it’s still a solid sequel that DC fans should pick up.

I should warn you that the story is not too interesting but the fight mechanics are amazing and the only reason to give a play through  Injustice 2. Marvel gamers may have the Marvel vs. Capcom series but DC fans will be happy with Injustice 2 and hopefully we could see a Mortal Kombat vs. DC sometime in the future.

The story (yes there is a story) is set in a dystopian world in the aftermath of Batman bringing down Superman regime. Batman attempts to rebuild society however is sidelined by a new group of villains led by Gorilla Grodd along with plot by Brainiac to conquer earth. With limited resources and friends, Batman must form an alliance with Superman to save the world. Basically it’s like The Dark Knight Strikes Again, a follow up to an icon that ends up being a disappointing clusterf*** of a story.

The story may be bland but this is a fighting game, so story be damned!

As with the original game (or the Mortal Kombat reboot),  Injustice 2 is your standard 2D fighting game set in a 3D environment that features numerous DC characters. Players could follow the single-player story or battle against friends with the multiplayer feature or in classic arcade mode. Many of the gameplay mechanics such as environment interaction, stage transitions, and character traits are present while having received a minor tweak.

There are several new notable features such as the introduces of a loot-dropping system that gives players access to unique gear. Another new feature is the Multiverse mode, this allows players to battle opponents through a series of parallel worlds within the DC Universe.

I was disappointed by how was Injustice 2 dependent on unnecessary micro transactions given that it’s a fighting game and not an MMORPG. Also there are a few moments during my play-through were the controls were not responding properly (especially when your just mindless button mashing). That’s all I got a say about its problems since anymore complaining would be just unnecessary nitpicking!

Injustice 2 is definitely a title that DC fans should pick up while fans of fighting games will also enjoy it. The story may not be impressive but the mechanics are an improvement over its predecessor.

Final Score: 9/10

Disclaimer: I bought this game at GameStop.
