Trekkies and bookworms will be disappointed to learn that LeVar Burton has had to cancel his appearance at Silicon Valley Comic Con 2017 due to a directing commitment.

Silicon Valley Comic Con made the announcement on February 16 via Facebook while informing fans who paid for a photo ops or autographs that they will receive a refund. It’s also unknown what project Burton was working on but fans could expect an announcement sometime soon.

LeVar Burton is well known for his role as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation, the young Kunta Kinte on Roots and the host of Reading Rainbow on PBS. During his long career, he has been nominated and won multiple Emmy’s and Grammy’s along with a Peabody Award.

Despite his absence, fans could still meet the other cast members of Star Trek: The Next Generation for a 30th anniversary celebration hosted by William Shatner. Also present at Silicon Valley Comic Con will be space pioneer Buzz Aldrin, physicist Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski, and video game designer Richard Garriott just to name a few.

Silicon Valley Comic Con 2017 will be from April 21 until April 23 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center along with the surrounding locations. Tickets are now available for purchase.

8Bit/Digi covered Silicon Valley Comic Con 2016 and we will be present at the 2017 event.
