It was another weekend for the geeks and nerds of the Bay Area to gather together to celebrate the culture they love. This weekend was all about the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in San Jose while me along with a few friends got a chance to enjoy ourselves among other like minded fans.

Anyone who enjoyed Silicon Valley Comic Con back in March would also have a great time at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest. The event had vendors from all over Northern California while artist were present to sell copies of their work and celebrities were present. Also no such event is ever complete without cosplayers and units from the Golden Gate Garrison of the 501st Legion.

Heroes and Villains Fan Fest had over 60 vendors available selling collectable comics, cards and toys along with uniquely crafted merchandise. We found some comic books along with some really cool pins and artwork. I was able to find some cool Pokemon cards at Gambit’s Card’s and Hobbies booth. I was a little disappointed that no vendor was selling old video games, they are always my favorite.

Then there were the vendors that offered unique services. One such vendor was the Archery Santa Cruz, which allowed us to live and crush our dream of becoming Hawkeye (or Green Arrow if your a DC fan). Another one was the Harley Quinn Tattoo Parlor at the entrance which got our attention right away. We didn’t get any tattoo’s but it was just an example of all the unique vendors.

If one knows what to look out for then its like being a kid in a candy store. Even if you have no shopping agenda, it’s fun look through all the cool stuff.

Many comic writers and artists along with performers were also present during Heroes and Villains Fan Fest. There was also a main panel that hosted a special Q&A with the stars of several hit TV shows.

The main panel started with Amy Gumenick, David Ramsey, and Willa Holland form Arrow. Next there was Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz,Ciara Renee, and Jonathan Schaech from Legends of Tomorrow. Then Choe Bennet and Clark Gregg from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took over the stage. Following them was Candice Patton, Robbie Amell, Rick Cosnett, and Teddy Sears from The Flash.

The final quest of the event was artist Rob Prior demonstrated his skills to the audience.

Between the panels, the main stage would be dominated by The Rayford Bros., a Rockabilly band from Orange County, CA. They are also well known for dressing up as Batman, Robin and the Riddler for their performances at comic conventions. For Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, they performed covers of many iconic songs such as Ritchie Valens “La Bamba”, Johnny Cash “Folsom Prison Blues” and Chuck Berry “Johnny B. Goode” (a treat for Back to the Future fans).

Of course no convention story is ever complete without mentioning all the amazing cosplayers that were present. Some worked for authenticity while other added their own personal style. It was not just a photo op with your favorite character but also a chance to learn some tips for anyone who is trying to make their own costume.
