Aspyr Media attempts to reignite the wow factor that made the Modern Warfare story an icon by porting both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 to the Mac. While Modern Warfare 2 is hailed as a new classic, unfortunately its follow-up fails to standout as anything unique.

With most of the gaming community having moved on to Black Ops II or Ghosts while awaiting the release of Advanced Warfare, Mac gamers now have the opportunity to finish the story of Captain Price and Soap MacTavish in their hunt for Vladimir Makarov.

Modern Warfare 3 starts were its predecessor left of as Captain Price gets Soap medical treatment for his injuries while America repeals the Russian invasion. Three months later; Russian President Boris Vorshevsky wants to end the war, a policy that is not welcomed by some in the government who support a coup lead by Vladimir Makarov.

After taking control of the government; Makarov orchestrates a series of terrorist attacks across Europe that are followed with an invasion by Russian forces. This forces Price and Soap to come out of the shadows to end the war along with ending Makarov’s reign of terror.

The single player campaign switches between the Delta Force fighting the Russian invasion of Europe and Task Force 141’s hunt for Makarov. The Multiplayer feature gives players a verity of gameplay options while unlocking new gear as they improve their status. Overall it feels like they took the concept of its predecessor, copy & pasted it, then made a few minor changes.

Its tempting for a Mac gamer to finish the story but one needs to realize it’s like The Godfather trilogy, as in the first two are iconic masterpieces while the third installment is a disappointment. These are the key plot points a Mac gamer needs to know; Makarov kills Soap, Yuri and Makarov use to be BFF’s, Price kills Makarov, Russia and the West are at peace (I just saved a Mac gamer $14.99 and +15 hours).

Unlike its predecessors; this game has nothing memorable about its story while every “shocking moment” feels like it was shoehorned in for the sake of shock value. The only thing that Modern Warfare 3 is known for is generating over $1 billion in 16 days, beating the record set by James Cameron’s Avatar by one day.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was when series officially peaked in its quality and started its downward spiral that was obviously experienced in Ghosts.

In the end a Mac gamer is better just finishing Modern Warfare 2 than reading the Wikipedia synopsis just to learn how it all ends.

Disclaimer: I played this game at a friends house for 3 hours while playing the PC  version for 3 hours for a comparison.
